History

Founded in 2002, Musiqa is dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music, with a focus on presenting new and original compositions.  Since its founding, Musiqa has presented more than 100 performances  – including more than 20 world premieres – and performed the music of close to 100 modern composers.  Our concerts are unique artistic experiences that highlight fresh, modern music by renowned local and national composers.  In order to place new music within the context of other contemporary art forms, each Musiqa concert pairs contemporary classical music with another art form, such as literature, film, theatre, art or dance, to create a unique artistic experience.  Additionally, through our extensive education programming, Musiqa brings music education activities to close to 6,000 schoolchildren each season.

Musiqa has established itself as one of the country’s leading contemporary music ensembles: its national honors include awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music and Chamber Music America.  Most recently, Musiqa was awarded the 2013 and 2016 Chamber Music America/American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Award for Adventurous Programming.
