Join Houston Cinema Arts Society’s 7th annual Julydoscope for a picnic-perfect* evening of music, poetry, and film on Saturday, July 15, at Discovery Green®. Dia de Los Muertos Music and literary ofrendas

Musiqa celebrates the Mexican “Day of the Dead” with our annual five-way collaboration Musical and Literary Ofrenda at Lawndale Art Center. This free event is a collaboration with River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Lawndale Arts Center, Inprint, and the Houston Hispanic Forum — all promoted by The Mexican Consulate. The five original musical “ofrendas” (offerings) — commissioned by ROCO from Musiqa composers — are woven amongst four original prose texts by Inprint authors, surrounded by the beautiful retablos (alterpieces) on display at Lawndale.

Join Musiqa for an evening of dynamic, modern string quartets including Nico Muhly’s “Diacritical Marks,” a work of small gestures with references to Philip Glass and Björk, at times energetic and driving and at times rhapsodic and lyrical; String Quartet No. 2 by Michael Nyman, a set of driving, rhythmic miniatures inspired by South Indian dance.
