Good things surely come in three, as we welcome the world premiere of Marcus Maroney’s “Horn Trio.” Delight in the dramatic work of Grammy-nominated Ellen Taafe Zwilich, the first female composer to win a Pulitzer Prize, with “Piano Trio,” now a mainstay of the contemporary chamber music repertoire. Continue on a cross-country road trip as Dan Visconti gives us a “nod to the American century” with his piano trio, “Lonesome Roads.” Furthering the piano extended techniques in Visconti’s trio, the sparkling trio by John Harbison, “Twilight Music,” places high demands on its players in an exhilarating display of virtuosity. In addition, Musiqa will screen the two top prize-winning short films from CineSpace 2016 – a short film competition co-presented by NASA and Houston Cinema Arts Society: “1950DA”, directed by Sébastian Tulard and “Music of the Spheres”, directed by Jon Bougher and Kohl Threlkeld.
